Gait and Microprocessor Knees Training
This seminar will provide physical therapists, physicians and other healthcare providers with an overview of the functions and benefits of prosthetic knees, specifically the C-leg, Genium and X3. Both lecture and demonstration with patient models will be included. A review of the gait cycle and how individuals with amputations compensate in their walking will be covered. Gait training, balance and weight shifting exercises will be included. Tips for training a patient to utilize the functions of a microprocessor knee will be demonstrated during the symposium. A review of current research related to MPK technology efficacy will also be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the session participants will be able to:
- describe the key phases of the gait cycle as it relates to prosthetic gait
- identify common prosthetic knee components and their features
- demonstrate basic gait training techniques
- facilitate successful patient outcomes when using the C-Leg, Genium and X3
- Assess a patient before and after prosthetic rehabilitation
- Understand the functional levels and component selection
Presenter:
Erica Swanson CP, MOT, OTR/L
Erica has been working in the field since 2007, and joined Ottobock in 2011. In her current role as a PCS Clinical Specialist, Erica travels around the U.S. fitting MP Knees and teaching courses. Erica enjoys the fact that her position lets her both teach and participate in patient care, and she loves educating patients and practitioners on current trends in prosthetic technology.
